14 months down, 10 months to go...

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

Hows everybody been? It is tuesday morning, I couldn't email yesterday cuz the library was closed for Memorial Day. I have had a fantastic 8 days though. On Wednesday I got to go on exchanges with my district leader Elder McDonnell in the Young Single Adult area! So the whole day I was downtown Iowa City talking to all the college students. It was a lot of fun and we met some pretty crazy people haha.
Yesterday for Memorial day we got to play softball with the University ward and it was a blast!
Last tuesday I hit my 14 month mark and today may 26th is 10 months from the day I fly home! Time has flown by like no other time in my life. Next week is transfers and I have a chance of being transferred. I really want to stay here in Iowa City, this has been my favorite area for sure. I'll let ya know next wednesday when I email ya next.
On Saturday we had a bbq with Beverly and her family(the neighbors we are teaching) and it went really well. Beverly had surgery and is waiting to find out if it is benine or malignant still. Katie her daughter is going to the hospital today. The doctors will make a decision today on if they have to cut off her big toe or not. Both of them are still positive and optimistic despite their trials they are facing.
I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to be a full time missionary. I love these people. Thank you for the support you give me in my calling. I look forward to hearing how you have been doing.
Keep it real

"So sick of being tired and oh so tired of being sick"

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How's everybody been? I hope all is well. I got sick on Thursday and I still am. I just have a cold so I hope it goes away soon. Being sick really makes you be grateful for good health. It is a blessing that I hope not to take for granted.
But I still had an amazing week! On Thursday we had a lesson with our investigator Kim Fesler and we set a Baptismal Date with her! We set it for June 20th and I am so excited for her. She walked to church yesterday and she is so dedicated. Her husband is a member but is less active and so she is pretty much doing this on her own. It is truly a miracle when you see your investigator commit to baptism and set a date for when she will enter into the covenant that opens the doors to the celestial kingdom.

I found out that Beverly the mom who I told you about that lives by us, has breast cancer. She is having surgery this Wednesday I really hope she will be ok. Once again she is positive and is not scarred at all about it. It amazes me what this family has gone through and how they deal with it smiling. She has had to cut off on her coffee to prepare for her surgery, which is her only problem with the word of wisdom. I am excited to continue teaching them because they have so much potential.
Well, I love being a missionary serving here in Iowa City. These people inspire me so much and I have grown to love them as I've been teaching them.
I don't know if we can email next monday because of Memorial Day but we'll see how it goes. Until then,
Keep it real

Mother's Day Phone Call was Sweet!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How has everybody been? I had an amazing phone call yesterday for Mothers day! It really gave me the boost I needed to keep me going till at least Christmas when I call for the last time on my mission. I had a fantastic week. On Wednesday I had my interview with my mission president. Thursday we had our Zone Conference! I spoke on Elder Snows talk to the whole zone. It was a great spiritually uplifting day. We watched a movie called "only a stonecutter" You should all watch it. Its from Pres. Uchtdorfs talk Lift where you stand referring to the story he told.
I don't have much time to write much more I'm sorry. Thank you to those I got to talk to yesterday on the phone. I love you all and hope you keep on keepin on.
Until next monday,

"Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me"

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How has everybody been? I have had an amazing week. On Saturday we got to help out with the ARC Carnival that the Iowa City University Ward put on. It was for mentally handicapped children in southeastern Iowa. I was in charge of making the cotton candy so it was pretty fun. I love the members in the university ward, they are an inspiration to me and its been so good getting to know them.
On Wednesday I was able to teach the family I told you about(the mom and the daughter who got in a car accident) Our lesson went really well. They had a lot of questions about the Word of Wisdom so we taught them about that. It was amazing to me how the Mom was actually thinking about quitting coffee so she could become mormon already. We are going to teach them the restoration next time and I'm excited for it.
Yesterday we had a great sunday. Church was really good. I was able to attend the CES Fireside broadcasted from BYU Idaho! Elder David A. Bednar spoke and he just threw down the hammer. It was a very powerful talk, for those of you who saw it know what I'm talkin about.
Last night I had the opportunity of giving a blessing to a member who has cancer in the University of Iowa Hospital. This was only my 2nd time performing the sealing of the anointing and giving the blessing. It was truly a miracle as I spoke the words of the blessing, and have the words just come into my mind. It was a very spiritual experience for me. It testifies to me the power of the priesthood and how real it is. It showed me how much our Heavenly Father knows us personally and knows our needs. I am so grateful to be a missionary and to be the tool in the hand of the Master.
I look forward to Calling home this Sunday for Mothers Day! I miss you and love you all so much.
Until then,
