Happy early April Fool's Day

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How's everybody been? I've had quite the week. On tuesday we did service at the Veteran Hospital and it was a blast! The hospital is the biggest building in Iowa City and Iowa City is known for the best hospitals in the mission. We escort patients all around the hospital and they even hook us up with a free lunch there! We were asked to visit a member who was in the hospital from davenport. She asked for a blessing and that was a great spiritual experience.
On Wednesday I had my interview with my Mission President and it went well. He doesn't know what's going to happen to our 3-some for next transfer yet but I just hope that I get to stay in Iowa City. I really love this area and I feel I was meant to come here. I learned that originally I was supposed to go to Ottumwa Iowa this transfer with Elder Merkley who is my companion. But since the missionary in Iowa City broke his leg, they sent him home and transfered his companion. So the 3 of us were "white-washed" into Iowa City. I'm not saying I'm glad the missionary broke his leg or anything but I am so grateful to be here in Iowa City.
On Thursday we had our Zone Conference and it was a blast. My trainer, Elder Folkman is the new AP now so I got to see him for the 1st time since he trained me, which was almost a year a go!
On friday night we had a great lesson with a 13 year old kid, his mom is less active and he wants to get baptized! They all came to church yesterday and I'm so excited for them.
Well, I hope everyone enjoys General Conference this weekend! I am more excited for it than you can even imagine haha.

I've hit my 1 year mark!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How has everybody been? I've been livin the dream here in Iowa City! I hope everyone had a fun St. Patricks Day because I sure did. We got to do service at this retirement home and we helped old people on a St. Patricks Day scavenger hunt. It really got me into the holiday spirit of St. Patricks day haha.
Well on Thursday March 19th I hit my 1 year mark of reporting to the MTC! It happened to be on the day we have district meeting, so the 11 elders in my district got together and celebrated after the meeting. I burned one of my shirts because its tradition to do that on our 1 year mark. We then went out to eat at Olive Garden and we all got the soup salad and bread sticks dealio. It was a fun time. I can't believe that I now have less than a year to go on my mission. Time has never gone by so fast in my life. It really hits me and makes me want to enjoy every second I have left this last year.
On saturday we got to attend a baptism our ward had. The spirit was so strong at the baptism and it just hits me how it truly is a miracle to see a baptism open the doors to the celestial kingdom. I love being a missionary and am able to devote all my time and efforts to helping Heavenly Father's children receive the greatest of all gifts.
Until next week,

I'm at University of Iowa, Iowa City!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

Holler from the University of Iowa Hawkeyes I am in IOWA CITY BABY!
Wow! I am way excited to be in this city! I am serving in the Iowa City 4th ward and I also cover the university ward which is married students with kids 2 and younger or no kids. I am in a 3-some companionship! My companions are Elder Merkley from Lindon Utah and Elder Monsen from Mapleton Utah. I like being in a 3 some so were going to have a lot of fun together. My new apartment address is:
411 S. Peterson St. #11
Iowa City, IA 52240
I don't know how long I will be here, for sure 6 weeks so feel free to send mail directly to that address.

I am lovin it up in Iowa City! All my mission I have dreamed of serving here and this is the place where my dreams come true, just like Disneyland haha. I am now living where the rival to Iowa State university is! Its crazy cuz i served in ames for 4 and half months and was a cyclones fan ever since. Now I am here at the University of Iowa and I am changing to be a Hawkeyes fan haha.
Well, when I last emailed ya on Wednesday I was on my way to Des Moines. We stopped by the Osceola Elders and went down to Lamoni with them. We got to tour Graceland University(the RLDS or Community of Christ BYU in comparison) but way smaller of course. It was cool to see Joseph Smith the III's house. Pretty cool experience down there. Then we drove up to des moines and stayed the night at Elder Monsen's apartment. But I didn't even know he was going to be my companion until we got to Iowa City the next day lol. Transfer day I got on the bus and we drove back to Ames! I got to see my old stomping grounds and I loved that. I caught up with my old companions Elder Thomas(the 1st one) and Elder Daniels so that was fun. Then we got to Iowa City! I got to see a lot of old friends at the transfer points and it was awesome!
Yesterday at church I got to meet all the members in 4th ward and the University ward. They are more missionary minded here than anywhere I have seen and Im so excited to be here.
Well I got to go.
Until next week

I am being Transfered!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How has everybody been? I have been better than ever! I truly have had one of the absolute best weeks on my mission. But first, this morning I got the phone call informing me I am being transfered tomorrow! I've been here in the Lenox Branch for 3 months and now I'm sayin goodbye. We are driving to Des Moines tonight and stayin the night with missionaries up there. Then tomorrow at 6 am I get on a bus and I don't find out where I will be serving for the next 6 weeks until I GET THERE. They started this new method of transfers last transfer. I don't find out who my new companion is till I pretty much meet him for the first time when I get there. So I'll inform you all on that on monday.
So as I was saying earlier this has been one of the best weeks of my mission. When I emailed you last monday I was on my way to Des Moines. I stayed the night at Assistants to the Presidents house on monday and tuesday night. Tuesday morning I woke up and drove to Nauvoo Illinois! I got to go with all of the missionaries going home in 6 weeks. Once we got there our mission president took us to the bookstore there and I got some post cards. Then we took pictures in front of the Nauvoo Temple! It is the most amazing experience to stand in front of that temple in real life. I've been hearing all about the Nauvoo Temple throughout my life but here I was there for real. Church history became so much more than a story in a book right then. I had the opportunity to do an Endowment Session and it was a really spiritual experience. After the session a member of the Temple Presidency took us on a tour of the whole temple! We saw the Sealing rooms and the baptism font. We had the special priveledge of being able to go up the spiral staircase into the bell tower and stand directly below the Angel Moroni. We sang our mission song(a missionary version of Army of Helaman) and the spirit was stronger than ever. I was with missionaries who were about to go home and I had some deep reflection on the memories of my mission and how I only have 1 year left. We got to go to the Visitor's Center and look at all the artifacts on display there. Then we went to the place where the pioneers crossed the Mississippi River and that was cool. Nauvoo has so much history there and I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to have that history come to life on my mission.
On Saturday Joshua Poor my investigator was baptized! His family asked me if I would perform his Baptism and I was honored to perform that saving ordinance. There is nothing better in this life than to help your investigator who you love open the doors to the celestial kingdom through baptism. It was only my 2nd time baptizing someone so it was a great experience. On Sunday I was able to be apart of his confirmation and recieve the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I'm so happy that he has made this step in his life, it makes all the sacrifice of missionary life worth it.
I am excited for what the next 6 weeks will bring. Wherever I am Called to Serve I know it is where Heavenly Father wants me to be. I love being a missionary. I love all of you and thank you so much for the support you give me.

I'm off to Nauvoo Illinois!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

Welcome to March everybody! Can you believe how fast time is flying? I sure can't. I have had a miraculous week! On Wednesday I went on exchanges with my district leader and we drove out to a small town in our area. We got a text message from the MTC telling us about a headquarter referral in that small town. I remember when I was in the MTC and we would talk on the phone to people and then refer them to the missionaries in their area. Now out in the field I get to be a part of the next stage in their conversion. This lady requested a Book of Mormon so we brought that to her and taught her a 1st lesson on the Restoration. She felt that we were true servants of Jesus Christ and committed to being baptized on March 21st!
On Friday we taught our investigator Sara and she told us that she believed the Book of Mormon was true. She believes that Joseph Smith is a true prophet. So we committed her to be baptized March 28th!
This Saturday we have scheduled our Investigator Joshua Poor's baptism. We just finished teaching him all the lessons last night and I really hope that his baptism will happen and everything will work out. We have seen miracles this past week no doubt in my mind.
Last night I got a phone call from the Assistants to the President informing me I have the opportunity to go to the Nauvoo Temple tomorrow! Today we are driving up to Des Moines and then tomorrow we get to spend most of the day in Nauvoo! I get to go through an endowment session. My companion is going home in 7 weeks so I get to go with the group of missionaries that came out with him so it is going to be a fun time. I'll tell you all about it when I email on March 11th, cuz the 12th is transfers! My mission president told me I'm most likely getting transferred. I would love to hear from you so just send a letter to my mission office and it will be forwarded to wherever I am. Thank you all for the support you give me in my mission.
