I'm Moving to Creston Iowa!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

Last night my mission president called and informed me that I will be staying in the Lenox area for the next 6 weeks. But then he told us that my companion, Elder Thomas is getting transfered. So I will be getting a new companion tomorrow! I'm really excited for this next transfer because we are moving to Creston! We are moving this week into the House in Creston. Creston is like 8 times bigger than Lenox so I'm excited for the upgrade haha. So this is going to be a crazy week with transfers and moving to creston.
I had quite the past 10 days since I last emailed ya. I got really sick monday morning with an upset stomach and everything. I was sick all the way up until this morning, I feel a lot better, and I'm so grateful to be healthy! It was a rough couple of days though. They cancelled church on Sunday due to the snow and everything.
I found out that they are filming a movie here in Lenox! Who would have thought in a small town of barely 1000 people they would film a movie! It's called "The Crazies" and is apparantly a remake of a movie made in the 1970's. I don't know if I'll be here when they film it but they are supposed to bring in 150 cast members for it so that would spice this little town up like no other haha.
On Friday and Saturday we helped set up for the Farm Toy Show here in Lenox. We set up the tables and everything and we got to check it out too. I definetley felt like I was truly in Iowa at that thing haha.
Well, this past week I've learned a lot about enduring through your trials. In fact these past 6 weeks I've been in Lenox have been the hardest times I've had in my life. But I have never grown so much as a person in my life either. I am grateful for this opportunity to be a missionary and to serve the people of Iowa.
Until next monday,
Keep it real

"I Have A Dream..."

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day Everyone! I hope everyone has a fun day celebrating it up! Speaking of celebrating...3 days ago I celebrated my 20th Birthday! It is crazy to think that I am no longer a teenager anymore. I've begun the 3rd decade of my life haha. And the same principle with 2009 being my "Black Out Year" meaning I'll be on my mission this whole year, the same applies to the 20th year of my life!
Anyways, I had a great week! On wednesday we got to go to Osceola and go on exchanges with the missionaries there. We had a lot of fun together and it felt good to see other missionaries lol. Our Mission President called us that night and told us that the weather was going to be -35 degrees with wind chill! So he told us to not go tracting outside till friday afternoon! It was pretty dang cold, probably the coldest weather I have ever experienced. The weather is so cold here because of the humidity and the wind chill. It just magnifies everything and it's just crazy haha.
Anyways, Today is my 10 month "click day" and I can't believe how fast my mission is going. I know I say this every month lol, but every click day I have it hits me how short my mission really is. It just helps me realize that I need to live every moment to the fullest while I can. I love being out here on a mission! All the sacrifices made to be here is so worth it when I see the lives of people I love change for eternity.
Next time I email you guys will be January 28th, next wednesday. By then I will know what will be happening next transfer, If I stay and get a new companion, or if I get transfered to a new area. What ever happens I will serve the Lord with all my heart, might, mind and strength.
Until the 28th,
Keep it real

Healing Waters By Small and Simple Things

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

How has everybody been? I have had a very special week. I can't believe that next time you hear from me I will be a 20 year old man haha! January 16th is this Friday and I am excited to leave my teenage years behind and become a MAN lol. It will be tough to celebrate out in the middle of no where but I will do my best to party it up missionary style.
Anyways, it sure has been quite a week! On Wednesday I had the opportunity to go on exchanges with the zone leaders! Once again I got to go with Elder Gillespie and it was so much fun to be with him again. On thursday we had our district meeting with 6 missionaries this time so that was good. That night we went to a Care facility for older people and played bells with them it was a good experience.
On Saturday I got to witness my investigator Johnny Van Patten enter the waters of baptism! It took a lot to get the baptism all ready. We called the night before the baptism to check if his jump suit fit him and it didn't. There were no sizes that fit him so we brought out baptism pants and hoped they would fit him. He is a 9 year old kid and fit into my companions baptism pants haha. But it all worked and I'm so happy we could help him make this baptismal covenant that will change his life for eternity. It really made all the sacrifices that I go through day to day in the mission worth it. On Sunday we witnessed him being confirmed and recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost. It made me realize how precious it is to have that gift with us always and to be lead and directed by it. I'm so grateful that he will now have that to help him throughout his life.
Last night I got the opportunity to watch the CES Fireside with President Thomas S. Monson our beloved Prophet. I loved his talk and I felt the spirit so strong as he told the story of the mission photos that he saved for 40 years, and ended up blessing the life of a member he met on his mission. It made me realize how much my mission will mean to me down the road of life. It inspires me to make these moments the best I can and "Achieve the Great Expectations" that I have as a missionary as President Monson said. I hope some you got to see the Fireside too.
I've learned life is much shorter than we always think it is. As I hear of sicknesses and trials that my friends are going through, it makes me want to be more grateful for them while they are here, because we never know when we will be called back to that Great God who gave us life.
Until next week,
Keep it real
I'll write ya next when I am a 20 year old Man!

Welcome to 2009 America!

Dear Elder Morain Fan Club,

I hope everyone out there had a fun New Years! Cuz I sure did. We had a blast on New Years Eve, the same family that had us over for Christmas had us over for New Years Eve too. We got to play some fun games and had our traditional sparkling cider so I felt right at home. I actually bought the sparkling cider at an Amish Discount Food Store haha. It was wild! We drove down to it right before it got dark, and since its an amish store it doesn't have any electricity so it closes at sundown haha. So we hurried down the aisles before it was to late grabbing stuff off the shelves cuz it was so much cheaper than anywhere. I got this hat with a like a flashlight on it and used it throughout the store and then bought it for fun haha. After we got out of the store we realized we were low on gas so we asked a member where the closest gas station was. They told us it was in Missouri! So since we didn't have any other option we drove across the Missouri border and got gas out of the mission haha. We were in the Missouri Independence Mission. It was my first time in Missouri so that was exciting! I've now been in 4 states on my mission, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota!
This week we pretty much sealed the deal on Moving from Lenox to Creston! We have to wait till February 1st to move there though. I am excited because creston is 8 times bigger then Lenox so that will help.
We had a good New Years Day, we had our first district meeting of the transfer. We drove up to Osceola for it. It's just 4 elders in my district, the smallest I've had on my mission. I am now in my "Black Out Year" which means that every day of 2009 I will be on my mission! I am really excited for this New Year, it will most likely be one of the best years of my life.
This Saturday will be one of the best days of my mission for sure! On Saturday will be having our investigator John Van Patten enter the waters of BAPTISM! On tuesday and saturday of this week we finished up teaching him all the lessons. This Wednesday is his baptismal interview, then saturday is his baptism. Then Sunday he will be confirmed and receive the Holy Ghost! This is only the 2nd time on my mission that I have been in the area when our investigator is baptized! I am so excited to see him make this commitment and I know it will change the rest of his life. He is only 9 years old and he has a lot of life left to serve in the church. His family has recently came out of inactivity so I am so happy that his Father is able to perform the baptism for him and his great uncle perform the confirmation for him. I love being a missionary and being able to assist in changing peoples lives forever. It is like nothing else in this world and the greatest work I could ever be involved in.
Well, I can't believe my birthday is coming so fast! (January 16th by the way) I can't believe I am going to be 20 years old already! Time flies when your having fun.
Until next week,
keep it real!
